Knolls Recreation Area, March 2010

We've had mixed results with Knolls in the past including severe winds, punctured tires, getting the truck/trailer stuck in the sand, run-ins with the rangers etc. This time however,
despite some colder than average temps on Saturday, I think we saw a little glimmer of hope and ended up having a better than average trip here. We arrived Friday evening to warm temps and were able to ride quite a bit before the sun set. Saturday, we woke up to blowing snow that dusted the sand, but it didn't cause a problem for riding and melted off by noon. We put up a wind screen and built a fire after deciding we didn't want to sit in the trailer any more. There was a race going on in the area, but it didn't cause a problem at all and it turned out to be fun to run the course when it wasn't in use. The wind blew all night Saturday, but we woke up to a beautiful Sunday and rode the race course before lunch. The only downside on Sunday was a little spill I took that knocked the wind out of me and actually knocked me unconscious for a few seconds. It really wasn't a big deal, but not something I'd really like to do again either. I suppose it's bound to happen sooner or later, but hopefully, it's later. Here's some pictures from the trip, Enjoy!

  1. Well...go race in the race!!! What's wrong with you? Glad you had fun. I sat in the house all day Saturday. It was a blizzard out there, and Sunday too. 8 inches! &$#@#@!

  2. Yea, I thought about it..I need to do a few things on my bike(and body) first to be competitive in a desert race. I'd need to go from a 13t to a 14t on the front sprocket at least...maybe next year..maybe not:).. Looking forward more to "racing" my boys when they get faster.

  3. Well, I think the boys would kill you. They are already fast. I like racing on mountain bikes, it pushes you more and more.
